Katy Perry revealed her pregnancy back in March by showing off her baby bump at the end of her music video "Never Worn White." And now the follow-up video for the new single "Daisies" looks like a photo shoot of pregnancy glamour.
The idyllic clip, lensed from a "safe social distance" by filmmaker Liza Voloshin, depicts the radiant pop star and American Idol judge frolicking in nature — at one point even stripping off her gauzy sundress to wade naked beneath a waterfall. The profile pose of Perry, reclining against a rock wall with her arm draped over her bare chest, is reminiscent of other classic, natural maternity shots, such as the famous Vanity Fair covers by Demi Moore and Serena Williams or the Elle cover by Jessica Simpson in 2012.
In the "Daisies" video, Perry is not only baring skin; she bars her soul in the lyrics of the song too. In a press release Perry described "Daisies" as "an anthemic celebration of the strength of the human spirit," which has the same ebullient, victorious feeling as her hits "Firework" and "Roar."
Perry expects a baby girl with her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, to whom she was engaged on Valentine's Day 2019; this will be her first daughter, and Bloom's second. The two were reportedly going to get married this June but due to coronavirus problems they postponed their wedding. Perry hasn't formally revealed her baby's due date, only saying it's going to be in the "summer," but after the "Never Wear White" video premiere on Instagram Live, she said she planned to drop her fifth studio album around the same time that she was born. The press release for the video "Daisies" announces that the album is now being confirmed for release Aug. 14.
"Daisies" is the new song from the as-yet-untitled album; previous songs have included "Never Worn White," "Harleys in Hawaii," "Small Talk" and "Never Really Done." Perry expects to play "Daisies" on both Amazon Music's live performance series this Friday and the American Idol Season 18 final this Sunday.
