Major Movie Release Date Affected by the Coronavirus

Through A Quiet Place Part II to Black Widow, Covid-19 has ripped the 2020 release schedule apart. Here's a rundown of the changes up to now going.

The coronavirus pandemic wiped out movie-going in the US in less than a week, shutting theaters across the country and forcing studios to boot future blockbusters off long-held and carefully scheduled release dates. For now on, any major studio and independent film set to appear on screens between this weekend and Memorial Day has been indefinitely delayed or rescheduled; in addition, the earliest audience will see a new film in theaters on May 30th, when Disney plans to unleash Artemis Fowl.

The widespread disruption has set asunder on the industry, with productions frozen and studios finding new ways to communicate with the old customers. For NBCUniversal, this meant serving up recent releases such as The Hunt and Invisible Man and the forthcoming Trolls World Tour to home audiences for rent on demand; For others, like Disney and WarnerMedia, this meant that recent films like Frozen II and Birds of Prey were forced to stream platforms earlier than anticipated.
